Timeout...longer than expected...but I'm BAACCKKK!

Hello.  I don't even know who to say hello to because I have a feeling everyone who read this blog has given up on it.  I did!  But life has a way of bringing us back to center, so here I am again, ready to share the joys, frustrations, triumphs and disappointments that we all go through.  Covid did such a number on everyone and everything that we once called normal, that we had to relearn and revamp what 'normal' is.

Since the last time I posted, a lot of things have happened.  2022 was filled with life changing events.  I had gone deaf and required cochlear implant surgery to restore my hearing.  I had no idea what all was involved and the medical community did little to fully prepare me for the overwhelming changes, issues, complications, and long lasting effects that such a procedure carries with it.  I had my surgery in March and my processor and 28 electrodes that were implanted into my brain were activated on my 69th birthday on April 12th, 2022.  The world came alive with the weirdest noises, sounds, and cacophony, but none of them made sense and they certainly did not resemble anything my brain recognized. Everyone sounded like a robot, cyborg, alien, cartoon, or whatever you want to call it.  My brain hurt. Loud noises were intolerable and made my brain feel like it had been placed in a blender and turned on high.  Trying to get used to having a magnet stuck to my head was no picnic either.  The surgical procedure is brutal.  The recovery is difficult and frustrating.  But the long term advantages are well worth the trouble.  I can hear, I can communicate, I can talk on the phone and I don't have to read lips most of the time.  There are limitations, but what a miracle this device and technology truly are.

2022 was also the year I lost my mother, two weeks after her 96th birthday.  Having my surgery when I did, allowed me the best gift of all.  I got to hear my mother's voice again before she passed away.  Believe me when I tell you that all the pain and frustration of that surgery was so worthwhile when the reward was the gift of her voice telling me she loved me.

2022 was also the year my daughter surprised us with a new job as the promotor of a dirt track speedway.  Trust me, there's never a dull moment in this family!

Now, on to what's happening in 2023.  I started making wreaths last winter and had a good amount of success selling them locally and even had some out-of-state sales as well.  During the learning process, I had the good fortune to learn some other new skills, including the art of sublimation.  I'm having so much fun making new items and learning new techniques and the stuff I'm making has actually been selling faster than I can make it.  I will be sharing some of those things on here as well as in my Etsy shop, TheRaggedyBakerStore.
